The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is designed for individuals over the age of 21 years, who wish to ride bikes of unlimited size and power.
Training is initially conducted on 125cc bikes, and progresses to 500cc bikes that are used for the practical test.
Course lengths are determined by the individual's level of skill and competence - novice riders will naturally require more training than experienced riders!
The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after an assessment of your riding skill. They are also happy to discuss your needs as a rider and offer the best training package to meet those needs.
To successfully complete a Direct Access Scheme training course you will be required to complete and pass a written theory test. Please click here to read more information on the Motorcycle Theory Test.
The Driving Standards Agency states that a rider who is going to take their DAS must have a valid CBT and have passed the Motorcycle Written Theory test prior to starting their DAS training.
We are more than happy to guide you through these steps, to ensure that you get your licence as efficently and promptly as possible, while ensuring that you take in all of the skills at the same time!
The number of days that you require to complete your DAS test depends on the amount of riding experience that you have, a basic structure is below.
2-Day Intensive Course
This course is for very experienced riders who have already completed a CBT. Both days are conducted on a motorcycle over 47bhp to get you used to handling a bigger machine culminating in your test in the afternoon of the second day.
3-Day Intensive Course
This is for experienced riders only, who have already completed CBT. All three days are spent on a bike of over 47bhp teaching you all you need to know for your test. Day 3 begins with a mock test in the morning, followed by your practical test.
4-Day Intensive Course
This course is for riders who have done a little, limited riding. Day 1 will be taken on a 125cc machine, whilst days 2, 3 and 4 will be on a bike of over 47bhp. On day 4 you will begin with a mock test in the morning followed by your practical test.
5-Days Intensive Course
This course is suitable for the novice rider. The first day will be your CBT, which should be taken 2 weeks before the start of your 4 days. The rest of your four days do not have to run concurrently they can be split to suit your requirements. Days 1-3 will be training on 125cc machines followed by day’s 4+5 on machines over 47bhp. Day 5 will consist of a mock test in the morning followed by your practical test.
